"Hello from Phats"
by phats inhay out there.. wife got back from her thursday meeting & now she's setteled down with the dog, a v large g&t (maid be me) & watching terminator 2 on the telly with her ipad on her lap looking up places to go for our holiday (& googling symptoms of to many antibiotics as my 16 year old is getting signs of ibs).
so now is a good time to say hello.. well hello.
my name is phats & i'm an ex jehovah's witness.. there, i've said it.. this must be like it is going to your first aa meeting.. i've already used up some of my posts for a newbe but i'm not in to the whole long story thing.. basically i've been out now for 8 years (mentally out for all but four or five of those years of my life when i made the commitment, got baptized & married.).

Welcome! How wonderful that your children are mentally free. They can be anything they want when they grow up!

a few months ago i decided to stop reporting time.
i'm mentally out of this cult now but still trapped because of family.

Welcome, interesting recording. Their lack of logic and fumbling saddens me, but there's always hope that different comments from awake JW's will get some to rethink their stance.

Farewell from Confused and Alone
by confusedandalone ini use to hate when people who made goodbye posts on message boards.
why would they think that just because you no longer post on a chevy truck forum or a los angeles lakers forum the world would crumble around those still left there.
this place is definitely different.

I've enjoyed your posts And wish you all the best! hoepfully, we'll meet sometime as I'm in SWFL. I completely get your comment about being black and agnostic/atheist And how rare it is in many black families. My ex husband was agnostic when I met him and after reading dawkins, Hitch And Sam Harris feels pretty comfortable as a black male that doesn't think he ever believed in god. Despite our marriage ending over 10 years ago, he was probably the most excited person I told about my waking up and leaving JW last year.

I pioneered out of high school in Massachusetts in the 90's. There was a whole group of us that were pioneering out of high school and we had a lot of laughs. We were with pioneers who had made stringent sacrifices and with some who led lavish, cushy lifestyles. The older pioneer sisters always kept us busy with their many calls and the younger ones made sure we had fun coffee breaks and everyone got their errands done, while placing tracts :).
One of my girlfriends and I stayed with this sister in NH for our pioneer school who was so wacky. We appreciated her hospitality but couldn't wait to get home. I choose to remember it as happy, well-meaning, yet deluded times that made me part of who I am today. No point in living with regrets.

I'm so sorry for the frustrations you are dealing with after the convention. It's just bringing out the "cult" side of your wife. How old is your daughter?
I've read many of your posts when you are funny and you don't seem too upset most of the time. I usually laugh at something you've commented on...in a good way. Remembering your wife spent three days listening to an indoctrination program and will likely have the effects fade, as most JW's do, should be a small comfort. It's easy to feel pumped up after the convention and combined with the video she's likely feeling her family doesn't measure up to the ridiculous standards if JW world so she's panicking.
Do you go over a budget with her so she knows where things stand financially? Does she bring in income? I work in finance and sometimes meet women who were clueless about bills until the yap find themselves single. It does more harm than good. The WT discourages logic in so many areas grrrr....and those videos are so unrealsitic.

A Thread for Cyclists - Where Do you Ride?
by cofty ini took up cycing a couple of months ago just to get fitter and lose a bit of excess weight.. i bought a second-hand hybrid bike (weighs only slightly less than a truck) and fitted road tyres.
four or five times a week i will go for a ride after work for an hour or so.
i am fortunate enough to live in rural north england surrounded by limitless quiet roads.

If you're looking to meet nice "worldly" people upon exiting JW world, cyclists are a great group. I've seen so much sharing and helping Since I joined a couple months ago. They are collectively low-key and always look out for one another. We had two flats on our Sunday morning ride and it was great to see the unselfish care among the group. It's also a relatively inexpensive activity to take up and you can find groups online that welcome anyone.
